In a thrilling fourth-quarter comeback, the Phoenix Mercury overcame a nine-point deficit to defeat the Indiana Fever 85-82 on Sunday night. With just over five minutes remaining in the game, the Mercury trailed 78-69 before Griner Cunningham sparked a 16-3 run to seal the victory.
Cunningham, who finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds, hit a crucial three-pointer with 3:04 remaining to give the Mercury the lead for good. On the defensive end, she blocked two shots in the final minutes to help secure the win.
The Fever's Kelsey Mitchell led all scorers with 25 points, including 16 in the second half. However, Mitchell's efforts were not enough to overcome the Mercury's strong fourth-quarter performance.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Mercury, who improved to 7-5 on the season. The Fever, who have lost four of their last five games, fell to 5-7.
