Devastating Earthquake Kills 19 in Pakistan and Afghanistan

Tragic Loss of Life and Extensive Injuries

A powerful earthquake of magnitude 6.5 struck Pakistan and Afghanistan on Tuesday, causing widespread devastation. Tragically, the quake has claimed the lives of at least 19 people, while over 200 have sustained injuries.

The earthquake's epicenter was located near Jurm, Afghanistan, about 28 miles (45 kilometers) from Khost, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The tremors were felt across a vast region, including the Pakistani cities of Islamabad, Peshawar, and Lahore.

Collapsed Buildings and Panic

The earthquake caused significant damage to buildings and infrastructure in both Pakistan and Afghanistan. In Pakistan, several buildings collapsed, trapping people underneath the rubble. In Afghanistan, the quake triggered landslides that blocked roads and isolated communities.

The sudden and violent shaking of the quake sent residents fleeing from their homes and offices in panic. Many people spent the night outdoors, fearing aftershocks or further damage.

Relief Efforts Underway

Rescue workers and relief organizations are currently engaged in efforts to search for survivors, provide medical assistance, and distribute aid to affected areas.

The Pakistani government has deployed army troops to assist with search and rescue operations. The Afghan government is also coordinating relief efforts, with international organizations providing support.
